Owing to the holiday weekend, we have re-arranged the fixture originally due to be played on 18 Sep.
P6 Match vs Duddingston at Ravelston Park – Tue 14 Sep 6.45 (for 7.00pm kick off)
This will now take place instead of full normal training session. All those who attend will get a chance to play if they wish, though we will also run training alongside for those not invloved at any particular time. Please get there sharp to allow us to make the most of the dwindling light! Also, please advise if you know you will not be able to attend and we can plan accordingly.

We have also accepted a request from St Peters Primary School to give them a game, allowing us to offer everyone a game this week.

Early Touches Course on Sunday 5th of September the details are as follows.
Broughton High School 10am – 4pm.

The course is practical for those able to participate.

The Early Touches course is the first of 5 levels in the Children’s Pathway and I would highly recommend the course to any coaches who have not done the course already.

Just a short note to announce the start of the badminton season on 25 September 2010.

There has been a change in who is running the club this year as Alex Russell is stepping down after successfully running it for a number of years. After helping Alex for the last couple of years, I will be taking over and looking to continue the mixture of coaching and fun games that we have seen at the club.

Although the size of the hall limits numbers, there may be spaces available and anyone wishing to participate should contact me to find out further details.

Blackhall P4 7-3 Holy Cross P4/5
In the proverbial match of two halves, Blackhall P4 came from 3-1 down at half time to score six goals without reply to run out comfortable 7-3 winners against Holy Cross P4/P5.

Blackhall opened the scoring when Cameron hooked the ball high into the Holy Cross net, but despite dominating in terms of possession and playing some neat passing interchanges, were caught out by three breakaways which left one on one situations easily converted by the opposition.

It had been a gritty performance, with Alex adding bite to the midfield, and John proving a stubborn obstacle in defence,

A half time reshuffle worked wonders, with Rory going between the sticks to allow Jake to patrol the left wing and provide service for the goal hungry forward line.

Jack, David, and Thomas all added to that early effort as Holy Cross were blown away by some crisp passing and ruthless finishing.

A promising start with all concerned acquitting themselves with distinction!

Blackhall P4 7-3 Clermiston P4/5

This young P4 team showed no signs of nerves as they took to the pitch for their first ever match. Right from the kick-off they played some beautiful football, stroking the ball around like Brazilian street kids. It wasn’t long before Blackhall drew first blood with a stunning goal from Hamish – 1-0. For the next 5 minutes the two sides battled hard with no end product. With fresh legs up his sleeve, Assistant manager Power sent on substitutes Thomas and Andrew with immediate effect – Thomas ran on to a great cross from Ewan H. and smashed home a half volley with his first touch of the game – 2-0.

Blackhall continued to grow in stature with some full-blooded tackling from Rory and Ewan P. keeping a very good Clermiston team at bay. Ewan H then ran through to slot in a third for Blackhall 3-0. Clermiston finally broke through Blackhall’s defence with their first goal – 3-1.

Matthew replied with a screamer from the edge of the box, following some great midfield play from Andrew – 4-1. This was followed by another from Clermiston making it 4-2. Gaining in confidence, Clermiston applied sustained pressure on the Blackhall goal. Then came the turning point of the game – the Clermiston centre forward broke clean through with only the keeper Eve to beat. But Eve’s amazing diving save kept out a powerful goal-bound shot.

Just before half time Ewan ran on to a great through ball from Hamish to settle the managers nerves – 5-2 (half time).

In the second half the pocket rocket Eve came out of goals to terrorise the Clermiston defence, scoring a solo effort – 6-2.

Clermiston replied with another – 6-3.

Alex took the goalie gloves for the last quarter and after a goalmouth scramble dived on the ball right on the line to maintain the 3 goal cushion.

Ewan H scored the final goal of the game making the final score 7-3.

Well done to both teams for a great sporting encounter.

The first P4 matches are on tomorrow. Each week we will be selecting 2 teams from those who are available to play. Although the teams are named Blackhall P4A and Blackhall P4B, the A & B do not relate to their class at school or footballing ability. Our aim is to select two evenly balanced teams each week. This week all those who have responded have been selected but sometimes we may have to rotate players if there are too many.

We have strips (tops only) for both teams which should be handed back to the coaches at the end of the game. Please bring along black shorts, football boots, shin pads, etc. Well behaved parents welcome to provide encouragement from the sidelines.

Kick off is at 9:30am so please be there by 9:15am for team talk etc.

S1 Royal High Rugby Training – Tuesdays 5pm Barnton

Just to make you all aware that the S1 group will start training on Tuesday 10th August 2010 at 5pm at Barnton.
Our Coach Gavin and his Assistant Coach will be happy to see you there next Tuesday.

This September, just 2 ½ years after first taking to the walls at EICA, Rachel Carr will step out into the same arena to represent her country at the IFSC World Youth Championships. Rachel (14) from Blackhall in Edinburgh and a GB Climbing Team Youth B member since January 2010 is one of nine Scots confirmed as part of the 19 strong GB team. She will be joined by fellow Edinburgher Jonathan Field (Fairmilehead) who will compete in the Youth A Boys category.
Rachel said “I am so proud to be able to represent my country at something I love doing. It will be great to meet climbers from other countries and show them the great walls we have here in Edinburgh. EICA is going to be buzzing in September”.

Background
1. Rachel Carr lives in Blackhall in Edinburgh and attends the Royal High School.
2. She has been climbing competitively since 2008, primarily at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena (EICA).
3. She is the 2010 MCofS 14-16 years Scottish Girls’ Champion and won the Under 16 Recreational Female category at the 2010 BMC Leading Ladder finals in April.
4. She received a sports award from the Blackhall Children’s Sports Committee in 2010 to help with her training and travel to competitions and receives support from Edinburgh Leisure, Tiso, Neil McGeachy (her coach) and staff at EICA, Ratho.
5. Rachel is a member of the Quickdraw Climbing Club which is based at EICA.
6. Fellow Quickdraw club mate Eleanor Hopkins (Kippen) has also been selected for the Youth B team at the World Championships. The girls will also be competing together at the European Youth Series in Vienna on 14/15th August.
7. Complete list of Scots to competing at Worlds are Dylan Mackenzie, Eleanor Hopkins, Jonny Field, Jonny Stocking, Natalie Berry, Paul Williamson, Rachel Carr, Robert Mackenzie & Steven Addison.
8. The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) organise and support youth climbing competitions in Scotland
9. The British Mountaineering Council (BMC) organises and supports UK-wide youth climbing competitions and supports the GB Climbing Team.

11. Youth Climbing is a popular sport throughout the world. European and World level competitions involve climbers leading a route (i.e. clipping their rope in on the way up). Youth Climbers compete across 4 age categories – Youth C (12/13), Youth B (14/15), Youth A (16/17) and Junior (18/19). Males and Females compete separately. Competitors are classified according to the year in which they were born.
12. Sports Climbing is up for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games.
13. Scottish climbers account for 35% of the GB Youth Climbing Team.
